Revalidation of The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark status

29.06.2015

Representatives of the Global Geopark Network were in the Geopark to undertake a reassessment and revalidation of The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark status.

The UNESCO-supported designation is subject to review every four years and the assessment, which was conducted by Dr. Klaus George from Germany and Dr. Margaret Wood from Wales, forms part of the review process for the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.

The assessment involved a series of visits and meetings with agencies and the local community over a three-day period with an overall community presentation hosted in Hotel Doolin.

The assessors will now submit a report to the Global Geopark Network on the revalidation process and a decision will issue later in 2015.

The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark is one of three Geoparks in Ireland, the others being The Copper Coast in Waterford and Marble Arch Caves in Fermanagh.
