GEOfood

GEOfood is a movement that promotes the connections between local food, geological heritage and the livelihoods of the people in the region where the food was developed. The concept of GEOfood initially started as a project between Geoparks Nordic Contries in 2014 and has since grown to include 49 partners throughout the world. The GEOfood is managed by the Magma Geopark team in Norway

To achieve the status of Geofood, producers must be able to prove that their food was produced in a European Geopark and they must be able to tell the story of how the food was produced and about the geological area in which it was produced. Only a UNESCO recognised Geopark can be allowed to use the GEOfood brand and criteria.

Local farming and food production in The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark has a rich and proud, evidence-based history that dates back for thousands of years. From locally made ice-cream to freshly caught seafood, the diversity of food and production methods for food in the Geopark is vast. Every product has its own story to tell and that is just what we aim to do.

The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UGGp became a member of the GEOfood network in 2021. We are currently collecting a wide array of food stories throughout the Geopark and we are establishing GEOfood as a core part of food in the region. Watch this space for our upcoming work on this movement.
