Code of Practice Case Study: The Falls Hotel & Spa and their 220KW Hydro Power Turbine

17.01.2024

The Falls Hotel & Spa, Ennistymon stands out as an excellent example for the implementation of the Geopark Code Of Practice for the Sustainable Tourism principle on Sustainable Environmental Management

The dedicated team at Falls Hotel and Spa is all about Green Hospitality! Engaging in various sustainable initiatives, they’re actively reducing their carbon footprint and fostering connections with local communities. Back in 2018, the team achieved a significant milestone by installing a 220kW hydro power turbine near the falls on the picturesque Inagh River beside the hotel. When the river is at its peak, they’re harnessing 100% of their electricity needs from the river – the only hotel in Ireland to generate sustainable electricity in this manner! In March 2021, the Falls Hotel and Spa received official recognition for their efforts, becoming a certified carbon-neutral property by GreenMark.ie through Green Hospitality Ireland.
